Golden Temple, located in Amritsar India is a religious place & Sikh Gurdwara built by Guru Arjan in 1604. It is also famous by the name Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib. Harmandir means Temple of God.

Amritsar got its name for Amrit Sarovar meaning Holy Tank.

Do you know history of Golden Temple?
Great Legend, Akbar, a Mughal emperor was yet again was having big hands in Golden Temple.
Akbar gifted to the site to Bhani, she married Jetha, who later became the fouth Guru, Ram das Ji. Guruji started construction of Temple Site there. Then after his son, Guru Arjan started the construnction the of Golden Temple gurudwara in 1588 and it was completed in 1604. He then put Guru Granth Sahib in it. It was not the fouth Guru, Ram Das who initiated the Golden Temple construction. Guru Ram Das was only involved in enlarging the lake and building a township, known as Guru Ka Chak.
Know the architecture of Golden Temple:
The structure of Golden temple is quite different from traditional Hindu temples. It’s built somewhat on the lower level and has four gates. It’s a three-storied building.
It is covered by lake, known as sarovar, which contains holy water.
It is based on Sikh Architecture.

Air – Rajasansi Airport of Amritsar is one of the option. It has direct filghts from Delhi, Chandigarh & Srinagar.
Rail – Every major railway station has connectivity to Amritsar Railway Station.
Road – Travel by Road from Chandigarh, Ambala or Delhi.

Summers are very hot & winters are extreme cold.
Best time to visit – October, November, February & March
Monsoon – Arrives in July
Don’t forget to visit the place in night. The temple looks attractive in night when its lit up and gold domes are illuminated.
